Folco’s Ristorante
The newest sensation to hit Markham Village is Folco’s Ristorante!
It’s already drawing rave reviews from patrons who have dined at the homey
Italian restaurant, located at 42 Main Street North in Markham.
All the pasta served is made fresh daily, right on the premises; some of the
specialities include Tortellini, Ravioli, Gnocchi and Lasagna. In fact, you can
watch it being made in the front window of the Century-old building that houses
the now-popular Folco’s.
Besides the fresh pasta, the menu includes a variety of veal, chicken, seafood
and vegetarian dishes and not to mention their now famous homemade Tiramisu.
Folco’s Ristorante is a dream come true for Mario Folco. Originally involved in
the corporate world, he spent the last two years working towards the opening of
the Italian eatery. During this time, he studied at the renounded culinary
institute ICIF in Piedmonte, Italy.
One of Mario’s goals was to bring a little of Italy to Markham. Mario, who is
head chef, spent four months in Italy working in different restaurants and
hotels to further intensify his level of cooking and follow his passion.
“I went to Italy to bring back the culture and the quality of food.” From the
moment you walk in the front door of this century building, the ambiance, food,
wine and music will give you the feeling of being in a little trattitoire in
Tuscany.
Mario and his family have lived in Markham for 18 years. This is truly a family
run business with his three sisters, two daughters, wife, son and two nephews
all working there. In fact, his wife Ann was the designer and decorator of this
restaurant.
Folco’s has two rooms with seating for approximately 70 people. In the near
future, they will be introducing Family Nights on Tuesday’s and Sunday’s where
you can eat in the traditional Italian way - food will be brought to you on
platters at a lower price than the regular menu, to be shared by all.
Mario’s daughter Deana explained that her Dad has been cooking for family and
friends for years, and Folco’s Ristorante is an extension of his love for people
and food. As Mario added, “Our goal is to make you feel comfortable. When you
come to Folco’s, you find out what comfort food is!”
Folco’s is currently taking reservations for Christmas lunches or private
functions in the afternoons and evenings.
